This oft-forgotten series starred Bella Donna
the friendly witch. She would
sit in her cave, stirring her cauldron and
conjurring forth pictures in the steam
with which to beguile her familiars, Clarence the
Crocodile and Sebastian
the Cat. Inside the steam clouds was the realm
of Hubble Bubble Land,
home to Pippin, Plob, Grandma, and Colonel Bluster
Bubble. And Clarence
and Sebastian would watch and wonder as their stories
unfolded...
"Hubble Bubble" was also known as "The
Witch's Brew", and it was brought
to our screens by Eric Bramall and Chris Somerville,
the talented folks behind
the Harlequin Puppet Theatre in Wales. The Harlequin
was, and still is, Britain's
first and only permanent theatre designed and built
for puppets. In the 60s and
70s, the Harlequin produced a run of top tv
shows, including the likes of
"Sugarball", "Puppet Caravan",
"Mr Trimble" and "Jimmy Green and His
Time Machine" - fabulous little series which
have been woefully neglected
by nostalgia fans since they aired. Surely
there's enough demand for a
"Best Of" compilation on DVD? -
Well, we can all dream...
