This year's Children's BAFTA winners! (image mashes up "Timmy Time" from Aadrman Animations/CBBC and the BAFTA award from The British Academy of Film and Television Arts)

    2010 Children's BAFTA awards      (30.11.10)

  spacerspacer

There didn't appear to be much publicity around the build-up to
this year's Children's BAFTA awards. In fact, the nominations
seem to have passed us by completely, and here we are already
with the official awards night behind us, and the prizes already
being carted off to mantelpieces all around our jolly little island.

The awards were held on Sunday night, 28th November.
Did you see the nominees publicised anywhere in advance?

Oh well. One mantelpiece that will be positively groaning now
will be the one belonging to the folks at Aardman Animations
and CBBC, because they had a double-triumph this year, with
Timmy Time winning the coveted Best Pre-school award, and
Shaun the Sheep winning for Best Animation.

And someone's got to lose out, haven't they? This year, it was
the turn of the multi-talented, multi-award winning triumverate of
Astley Baker Davies, who had three juicy nominations on the
final shortlist. Peppa Pig and Ben and Holly's Little Kingdom
were both trumped by that there Timmy, and the trio also
missed out in the Writing category. But, given their past
successes they surely can't feel hard done by.

It was nice to see TV presenter Brian Cant getting a special
award. What a wonderful figure he was, back in the day,
cavorting on Play School and Play Away. And of course,
he will be forever remembered as the voice of Trumptonshire,
   and chugging Chilgley...
