Calamity
Island (01.10.12)

Oh,
this news item is short, but decidedly sweet. "Calamity Island"
is a brand-new stop-motion series from Famous Flying
Films and
Mackinnon & Saunders. Devised by David Johnson (The
Koala
Brothers), it follows
the adventures - or indeed, misadventures -
of two inept shipwrecked sailors and the quirky inhabitants
of a
little tropical island. Said inhabitants include
that cute, peeking
penguin, nuzzling up to the sailor boys. Butter wouldn't
melt, eh?
But it does. And the trio get in all sorts of tangles
that will make
you titter.
Now some of you may have already seen this comical trio
in action, because a pilot film has had various screenings
as
part of the Box
Of Delights short film compilation from ICO Films.
In fact, that compilation is screening as part of the
education
programme at London's Rio Cinema on 4th November
(here
you go).
Anywho, the big news is the folks at CBeebies have
fallen for
the project big time, and a 52 x 7mins series has
just gone into
production.
So we're going to be seeing an awfully lot more of
these calamitous characters, down the line.
Mark it down in your diary, then "Calamity Island"
- Cbeebies -
2014. The official site is here,
with minimal content right now.
But it's sure to develop as we home in on the launch
date, as is
our coverage here at Toonhound!
