And
the BAFTA winners are...
(26.11.12)

So,
Sunday night was Children's
BAFTA night. And for a fleeting
moment the last defiant vestiges of Britain's animation
industry
emerged from the trenches to play a salutary,
solitary game of
awards fussball in no-man's land...
Well, okay, it's not quite as bad as that, but most
folks will tell you
the upheavals within the business over the last few
years have been
major. It's dog-eat-dog out there; adapt to survive.
And these guys
adapted, survived and were rewarded with a big golden
shiny mask
thing to put on their shelves, or use as a shield when
the bullets
start flying again... tee-hee...
This year's headlines were made by Cartoon Network's
"The Amazing
World of Gumball", which claimed awards for Best Animation
and
Writing, and Astley Baker Davies' "Peppa Pig"
who snuffled up her
fourth win. What a greedy piggy she is!
Top billing, however, went to Brian Cosgrove who collected
this
year's Special Award, in celebration of his forty years
in the
business. Brian needs no introduction here, of course.
He's a
Toon God and you'll find many of the classic series
and films that
he produced and directed identified in our TvToons
section. It's
about bleedin' time he got rewarded like this, isn't
it?
As always, Yours Truly has identified each of the
winners
for you, in the categories relevant to Toonhound, so's
you can
see who triumphed and got to preen in front of the cameras,
and who got all dolled up, only to leave empty-handed...
